On Memorial Day, Shiloh Hawkesworth traveled from Kansas to Fort Carson, Colorado to deliver the Medal of Honor to the 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment. Shiloh is the President of Straight and Stalwart. He is also a Distinguished Member of the 41st Infantry Regiment.
The medal was donated to the regiment some time ago by the family of the recipient. When Shiloh was visiting Fort Carson last October, he took possession of the award to work up a design that would be display-worthy. The recipient of the award was Hulon Whittington. He was awarded the Medal of Honor on July 29, 1944. He is the only recipient of the 41st to ever receive the award. Shiloh worked with Bulldog Customs on the design for several months, before they narrowed down a concept that they felt captured how a MOH should be displayed and told the story of Whittington.
Upon arriving at the regiment, Shiloh met with CSM Maldonado and his predecessor, CSM Eilers, and other members of the 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment. The presentation was done in the Regiment Room. With the room being filled with history of the 41st, it was the perfect location and especially fitting being Memorial Day.
Shiloh felt that having such a prestigious award on display at the regiment would instill pride in the 41st that has built a “Dynasty” since it was activated in 1917. The regiment has participated in conflicts such as World War II (Operation Torch, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe), as well as Operation Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Joint Guardian.
